Figuring out a new workout routine

The biggest difference between living in the country and living in the city is the noise.

  • In the city there is constant noise from vehicles and people.

It’s difficult to find peace and quiet. I now live in the country, where there is space and quiet. After living a more hectic lifestyle, the slower pace can be a little boring at times. I now wear headphones the majority of time. I like to have some music playing. I miss the amenities of the city. I had easy access to the gym. In my new location, there are no nearby fitness facilities. The closest one is more than a 45 minute drive. This was difficult for me. I was accustomed to working out at the gym at least four times per week. I took advantage of the treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines and stationary bikes. I used the strength training equipment and dumbbells. With no gym equipment available to me other than some free weights, I struggled to figure out a new workout routine. I realized that I needed to change my focus. There was a lot I could accomplish without having all sorts of specialized gear. I could go for runs and hike. I could ride my bike and run the stairs. The investment into some resistance bands, jump rope and a medicine ball was minimal. I’ve gradually added more and bigger machines such as a stationary bike and a treadmill. I now prefer working out at home. I can exercise at any time of the day or night for as long as I feel like.
